Motorhome freshwater tank cleaning

Hi All,

I have a Motorhome (Auto-trail Comanche) which has a 135 Ltr fresh water tank which has been empty going on for two months. I'm looking to get on the road shortly and so I'm going to wash the tank through with Puri Sol which I picked up from the dealers.

My question is (I'm afraid its all new to me as this is my first Motorhome) once flushed and refilled would you recommend using any other water treatment for the tanks i.e. a purifier? We mainly use the freshwater tank for the shower and toilet flushing etc. but if we do use the water for cooking or a brew obviously its boiled first.

Your advice would be most welcome.

Ferkel, if it's any help, the motorhome section is HERE (click on this link) however you'll probably find others who post in the "wrong" area so it's not a big problem. Click on the "create a new discussion" bit in that section. Sometimes a moderator will move a post for you but hopefully you'll find your way around soon.

That's true, none around just now unfortunately but DK usually does a sterling job in this section.

We use Puriclean on our tank and pipes at the start and end of the season, so that's twice a year, and then just treat the water coming out of the van taps as though it was tap water......

And we're both still alive.........

But then we are northerners......

There are many, many, posts on this forum and others on this topic. If you are going to drink the water direct from the tap then you will need to purify as you have done. Many people (ourselves included) fill separate containers to drink from or buy mineral water (cheap in France). We still purify but that may not be strictly necessary.
