Shell Fuel Card

Greetings one and all.

A 'heads up' for those of you who aren't already aware!

I'm a retired Insurance Claims adjuster, so fully inured to reading the small print, also fully aware that there's no such thing as a 'free lunch'; however, the fuel card which the club has negotiated for us cost nothing, so I thought it a good idea to add to the portfolio of touring options.

Before we toddled up to Norfolk last Friday in 'Barbara Ann', our VW California SE, I popped into Cobham services on the M25 to fill up for the journey and used the Shell card to pay.  At a price of £1:40 a litre, Shell can well afford to give an 8p per litre discount, even in the wilds of Norfolk did we see prices greater than £1:22 per litre!

We'll keep the fuel card, in case we're caught short on the motorway network, but at those prices, it will be 'break glass for emergency use' only.

On longer motorway journeys we sometimes have to top up but try to avoid it if possible. The card doesn't offer much of a reduction on the over priced M way fuel so it's a meaningless offer for us.

We always set off with a full tank of fuel, and then fill up to travel home if we need to, wouldn't stop to fill up at motorway services even with 8p  off I don't think.

Seems rather offered at the wrong market?

Its better suited for some poor individual driving for a living that for us who only drive just enough to enjoy "living".

I think it's actually offered at any market, I'm pretty sure I've seen the same offer in the ordinary motoring press, it's not an offer unique to CAMC members.........

I make use of it as I prefer Shell and find I get far better mileage and performance than with other brands.  However, what I was not told was that the scheme does not offer the discount for V Power.

I have used this card often as we live near one of the accepted petrol stations.

However since they announced the scheme would end on 1st September they have started to overcharge me about £6 to £10 a fill up during July and August.

They have credited me so far but am having trouble with the last fill up. Is anyone else having such problems?

Do you check your invoice?

If not, please do so as it is obvious they are trying to fleece us.

Do not use this company

Did the Club let us know the scheme was ending early?
