Mayday automatic renewal

I post this as a warning to members who have Mayday cover on automatic renewal.

I had occasion to phone them this morning to record a change of vehicle. No problem with this but I was told my membership subscription had expired on 4th February.. I explained to the operator that it was on automatic renewal. The replay was that had been an IT system update which had gone worse than anticipated and some automatic renewals had been wiped, mine being one of them.

Be warned that if you have an automatic renewal you may think you are covered but you are not.

Please check if you think you may be affected.

I received cards and notification as well. Got a letter today to tell me otherwise. May be well worth checking.

I'd think you'd still be covered if the renewal mistake was theirs

You are probably correct. However it's not a conversation I would like to have at the side of the motorway broken down.

Everyone should get a yearly membership card, even if the renewal is automatic.  If you have your membership card with you, then I wouldn't envisage a problem.  If you haven't received a new membership card, I would suggest contacting East Grinstead.  If the automatic payment has been taken from your bank account, I guess that would also tell you if the renewal has gone through??

If I recall correctly the letter with the new cards comes some weeks before the actual money is collected. If this thread does nothing else it should encourage people to check that the payment has been taken on the due date. Mine is charged to a credit card automatically but I have to be aware that I must informed them if there is a new expiry date otherwise the payment will fail.

When I rang to ask why I hadn`t received my renewal details & new card,I was informed I had not been covered for 12mnths as I had had a new  credit card with new expiry date so the payment had not been taken.I had been sent all relevant paperwork & new card but they did not bother telling me they had cancelled my cover for motorhome,2 cars & 2 motorbikes.Luckily nothing broke down,so I had saved well over £100 ,but things could have been different.

Not sure I would want to test it but if they fail to renew when you are on automatic renewal and you do have a claim, I would think that if it is not dealt with the Ombudsman would find in your favour, particularly if the renewal documents had been sent out.
