Driving licence changes & hiring a car

The paper counterpart disappears shortly so what happens if on holiday with no access to the Internet to be able generate a code and your car breaks down or is involved in an accident and as per your policy you need to hire a car.

Would you be happy to pass on all your details such as NI and driver's licence numbers to a call centre which may be foreign so that a code can be generated to enable them to check whether you have any endorsements etc?
