Devitt insurance

Very disappointed with customer services of this firm

They recently tried to take some money from my bank for an insurance policy that i have never had with them, after a less than receptive discussion with customer services as to why i might be annoyed with this & to prevent this happening, I cancelled my DD.

After finally receiving proper communication (ie not an email, which will often go unread in junk mail), i called them up with regard to my MH policy having not been paid due to this issue

up shot of this, Devitt customer services, totally uninterested in resolving a problem that has arisen from their attempt to take money from me without my permission, MH ins cancelled by them and expecting me to pay for their poor communication and poor customer service

It seems indicative of sevices recently that because they have sent an email they believe they have communicated with you, even though they have no knowledge if that information has been read.

would be interested if any others have problems with their customer services

Are you dealing with direct Devitt or the Club? I am not altogether sure how the problem arose but if you have a current insurance with the Club, underwritten by Devitt, you get notification of a renewal which states that unless you contact the Club to the contrary the policy will automatically be renewed and payments taken. I am pretty sure you have the option to select post or e-mail as a means of communication. Obviously e-mail is the cheaper option for the Club and many of us find that method of notification more convenient as it is not dependent on us being at home to receive the information. However , as you say, e-mails can be put into your junk folder if you don't have the sender in your contact file. Hopefully Jean from Club Insurance will see this post and be able to help you further.

Thank you David. I hadn't heard of them.

As far as I can see on-line Devitts are not actually insurers, they are a middleman between the Club and the company which actually is the insurer. I imagine the Club takes a profit and Devitts as middleman takes a profit and the actual insurer takes the rest. Whether the Club has a commercial/financial link with Devitts for putting business their way I do not know. I just insure my car face to face and direct with a big insurance company.

As I understand it Devitts are brokers who source policies in conjunction with Club to their requirements. With tow cars there might not be much advantage as clearly that is a very competitive market place. However there is likely to be more advantage in having caravan and motorhome policies which are tailored  more specifically towards members needs? For instance allowing longer stays abroad with fully comp cover? The Club clearly make money from the sale of insurance as it's often mentioned in the annual accounts and no doubt goes towards site upgrades etc.

Devitt's are brokers who place members insurance business with what they believe is the best policy for the individual. There will be commission on these policies which I would assume is shared between Devitt's and the club rather than them each getting commission.

Thank you Wildwood too. I know you are knowledgable on the subject.

My only insurance through this Club is a Red Pennant policy and so I looked to see whether Devitts are involved in that too. But no - it says that Red Pennant goes from the Club via Arrow Underwriting Services who are agents for Astrenka Insurance and if I claim I have to contact a firm of called Intana ClaimsManagement.

No Devitts there but a lot of other fish feeding in the insurance pond,  and yet we are no nearer helping the OP identify where in the chain his problem happened. I think he should tackle Club Head Office.

We have just this week had a similar problem with the C&MC home insurance also through Devitt.

We noticed that we had money taken from our Credit Card on the 7th June by Devitt. Knowing that our home policy was not due until the 16th of June we called the club to be told yes we have renewed your home insurance. As we were in France at the time we decided to wait until we got home to speak to them further. Today after many calls and long waits on the phone(listening to music) finally managed to speak to a person. We have not received a renewal notice either in the post or via email, although they say it was sent to the email address they hold for us (plenty of other emails from them though) We have cancelled the policy through the club as we are not happy with the cost for one thing and the way they went about renewing it without ensuring it was what we wanted.

We are now insured with SAGA £126.20 less than C&MC

i'm glad it's not just myself that has suffered from poor communication and customer relations from this company.

what they fail to understand is that due to their woeful customer services they have lost clients, in the digital age where a review can be left on multi platforms within minutes the cost to them in lost business will be unmeasurable but significant.

I would not worry about the route you are looking at for Red Pennant. What you have is essentially a specialist broker in Arrow who have the knowledge to negotiate the policy terms for the club and Astrenka is the insurer formerly Europ Assistance and is a well established travel insurance business.

Antana is a specialist travel claims business who are better able to deal with the problems and by going direct to them you are cutting out the delay in the insurer referring the matter on to an adjuster as often happens with claims reported direct to the insurer.
