Club POIs

The Club usually updates its site POIs once a year in January. (Not frequently enough in my view given all the CL changes that happen). I have been keeping an eye out for the updates >here< and note there appears to be some difficulty updating them? Yet another IT problem! I hope they will resolve it soon especially if it results in a more frequent update of CL sites, every 3 months would be nice.

Does anyone else use the POIs and would like to see them updated more regularly?

Obviously not useful to many then?

Is perhaps the issue that on certain devices it is now much more difficult to load POI's? I am thinking TomTom as an example. Years ago it was just a drag and drop operation, now you have to almost jump through hoops to get them onto onto a device. Also many devices are now advertised as pre loaded with POI's plus the advent of Google Maps where it is easy to search and get directions perhaps POI's are becoming a thing of the past?

I stopped using the club POIs years ago when sat nav told me I had arrived at CL when in fact it was in the next village 3 miles away. Archie’s took me to the gate of the CL.

But where did Archie get his POIs from? Like all the sat navs preloaded with Club POIs the source will have been the Club.

Archie gets a lot of his POIs submitted by campers and caravaners who have visited sites.

I have sent Archie the coordinates of sites that he didn't have on his database. His POI's seem uncannily correct when I have used them, perhaps I have been lucky. They have also been much more comprehensive than pre-loaded POI's if my Peugeot TomTom motorhome sat nav is anything to go by! Archie is one of those small band of hobbyists that spent their time for the good of others with little or no return to themselves.

I am sure he did but the baseline for the Clubs's sites probably came from those published by the Club.

In the past I have found CL co-ordinates in the handbook less than accurate. Whether that is duff info supplied by the owner or CAMC incompetence I've no idea but I have my suspicions.
