Club Motorhome Insurace - Windscreen Cover

Hi,  Has anyone experienced the same problems I have securing Motorhome Insurance for an A-class van which provides sufficient windscreen cover to replace a smashed windscreen.

With insurance cover fees increasing year on year I always shop around for the best deal.  In recent years I have found the club policies have provided the cover I needed.  One of the main considerations being to have adequate windscreen cover to replace the screen on my A-class Dethleffs, which I know to my cost (but that's another story!) can be in excess of £2,000.  Up until this year I have managed to find a policy that didn't carry an endorsement limiting the cover, in some cases to as little as £600!  Usually either of the two Club policies was OK - until this year!

The C&CC can only offer one through First Underwriting with a £1,500 limit, even through their website claims "unlimited windscreen cover available" and "flexible policies can be tailored to your needs" - this is not the case, even if you offer to pay a voluntary excess to increase the amount.

The CMC LV policy had been unlimited (if you claim and replace it through their authorised repairer) until I renewed this April, when to my horror the endorsement (No.053) sent by email reduced the maximum to £600, despite being told when I renewed that cover was 'unlimited'. I complained and have been told my file has been amended to remove the £600 cap to make it unlimited.

My advice to all club members with an A-class motorhome is to check the small print in your policy endorsement list to see what windscreen cover you have.  If the replacement cost exceeds the maximum the only way to proceed (to my knowledge) is by way of a full claim on the policy, which may affect the NCB!
