If you've booked a ferry crossing through the caravan club & you have children older than 16 please check the costs before you arrive at the port.

At Easter my family & I decided to take a ferry crossing to France on the Poole to Cherbourg route. We usually do the tunnel but weighing up all the costs it was easier to go by boat. We booked through the caravan club as usual as it worked out cheaper than booking direct & our daughter still qualified as a child. She turned 16 the day before we travelled.

when we got to the port we checked in & were told that our daughter had been booked in wrong as she was now 16 she was an adult. On the caravan club booking form she was a child until 18.

This difference in booking stipulations cost us an extra £57 which we weren't expecting. She wasn't any bigger than the day before or heavier or ate any more food than the day before. In fact she is only the size of an average 13 year old so the ferry company make a nice little earner out of caravan club members who also get caught out like this.

We're on the tunnel next time as usual!
