CC Magazine - a couple of points.

I too thought the letter page poor.  Biggest space goes to club reply which could have been an article in its own right 😉. I'm an avid reader but lately there's little in the sort of articles to attract me and notice a thread on here about car reviews that do not include information on towing. Pretty poor considering where the magazine is aimed 😞. The CL feature lacks facilities for the site or any real information without looking online, assuming you can find it...........  I could go on but won't. I agree with you on the cost of site mentioned. Judging by the marketing flyers that come with the magazine the treetop adventure inclusion could be seen as one or the other being extreme 😉.

This was the February edition of the magazine. An apt time to inform ALL of the members (well those that receive the mag or online version) that the new Website is up and running and that those members who wish to make a booking on a CL will find that we've completely messed it up so until such time as we've sorted out our mess could everyone take things like the reviews or the facilities that you can expect at the Cl or even the location of the CL in question with a huge pinch of salt, oh and by the way you may find leaving a review on a site that doesn't have one yet to be difficult or if you want to leave a revised review after visiting it for a second time , well, you can't.

It would be nice to think that the club could communicate with its client base to admit that a mistake has been made, particularly when ti's mistake is affecting the income of independent site owners, i.e. CLs.

Of course they could also go on to tell everyone about the other problems with the website such as problems with ferry bookings (I'm having to take the word of a CT member on this one) or navigation problems or problems with certain devices being non compliant etc.etc.etc.

There is a thread running at the moment about the appalling service being received by a CT member from Baileys but I think the CC are trying to emulate it with their deafening silence on the website issues. Devoting a few pages in the magazine may have helped those members who don't look on this forum (i.e. most of them) to realise that there are problems.

Hopefully I can answer the points on the price of the French site Le Domaine des Ormes (B08). £53.60 does seem high but this is for high season on a Premium pitch (16 amp electric, water, drainage, garden furniture, BBQ, fridge and free wi-fi). There are cheaper pitches available at the site so I guess if you don't need all the Premium pitch facilities then you can book a different type of pitch but still have all the site facilities.

The magazine has been criticised by others for the number and content of the letters so when they reduce them we now get more criticism, basically they cannot win on that one and people will just have to agree to dissagree.

As for the campsite fees it is a matter of personal judgement as to if it represents value. Basically the site offers it to the club and the club make it available which is what they are supposed to do. It is too high for me but that is my judgement. There are commercial sites over here charging over £50 per night and they get customers but not me.

The treetops course is beyond also, me but others may use it. Again the club are reporting on what is there and the price so you can make your mind up. There will be members who will want it so I cannot see why it should not be there, it is all a matter of what suits the individual and it is not up to the club to exclude things because they will not suit some members or are expensive.

Thanks for the explanation but the article doesn't reflect what you have said about it being a 'super type' pitch.  Price from £ 26.48- £53.60* *says outfit plus 2 adults. To me that suggests lowest price low season higher price high season. 😉

Are all the prices quoted for such pitches? As someone who hasn't ventured over the channel much and if these figures are offered as a guide to what to expect to pay I'd be thinking it's costly 😮. So probably wouldnt research further.But reading CT I know that it doesn't have to be. I look to the Club to be encouraging me to explore near and far with a note to say there are other sites in the area starting at £x. Also the prices are quoted in pounds but no conversion rate is given.

The magazine is correct with prices being for an outfit and 2 adults. Some of the sites have just one type of pitch, others have various. The price guide gives you the minimum you could pay and the maximum you could pay depending on pitch type and time of year. With the one you are commenting on it actually has 5 types of pitches as well as differences for seasons. I appreciate what you are saying but the magazine is just showing some examples, the best thing to do if anyone is considering travelling overseas is to request the brochure. This way you can see exactly what each site has to offer. 

The prices are quoted in GBP as that is what you will pay if you book a site regardless of the exchange rate.

I very, very rarely read a CC magazine. When I do it is more likely that I will pick up a copy in an information room on site than actually read at home. One of the first things I look at is the letters page. We are all different.

The Club magazine plugs its own commercial links with overseas sites where it offers pre booking. How many members with no overseas experience are led to believe that is the only way to go, and those are the prices they will have to pay ?

The fact that there are hundreds of decent sites across France in the £15 a night range, even in mid summer, is scarcely ever mentioned. Even the Club's own Touring France site guide,which lists lots of these lower priced alternatives gets little publicity or advertising - the overseas section of the magazine just promotes the overseas pre booking service and the escorted guided tours. 

So is the overseas section of magazine an information service to members or just a commercial promotion?
