CAMC car insurance

So ... last year I decided to take up car motor insurance with the Club. All went well and was happy. But then ... they sent me my renewal.

The cost has increased by £49

My NCD which was 18 years when I joined (and was accepted by the club with no mention of the fact that they would reduce this upon renewal) had been reduced to 9, so I rang to ask why and was told 'it's our policy as that's what insurers accept', so I asked them if they would send written confirmation of my NCD and I was told no, 9 was all they would confirm!

So I decided to shop around and ....

Quote with 19 years NCD £221 Quote with 9 years NCD £271 ... I'm fuming.

The best their customer service operative would offer was 'I'll log this as a complaint' ... I guess I wont get an answer before renewal.

I change my insurance companies every year.

considering I have 3 motorcycles 3 cars and a Motorhome, you'd think it was a bit of a chore.

But once set up on comparison sites, ( I use go compare, compare the market and money supermarket as they all quote from different companies and/or discounts)) it is just a matter of refreshing on each one for each vehicle every year.

Sometimes the lowest quote is with the same company I was insured with previously which gives a higher renewal quote, a quick phone call and I get the price quoted on the comparison site.

A good example of this is my MH insurance (1 yr NCD)which this year I made a saving of nearly£300 from my renewal quote and actually came in cheaper than my 2009 Fiat Panda (9yr NCD)!

You make me feel a whole lot better as I only have 3 cars & 1 motorbike (that's unfortunately not been on the road for  few years 😕) cool

Something has gone wrong, because the insurance cover I have has been quoted at over £1100.00 and they have apparently shopped around and come up with this one at £1073!

Ironically, I'm using my car less now  and the cost goes up!

I spoke to Devitt's this morning and they have sent my new quote through for just over £400.00! That is what I call a result!

Yes another increasingly disillusioned member.

Thought this year I would try the Clubs car insurance after reading the blurbs on the basis of beating any like for like quote!

My first problem after waiting thirty plus hours for a response call-back was, sorry the the Club through their scheme with Devitts don't insure pick up trucks. I drive a Nissan Navara NP300 - lovely vehicle.

The young lady was very helpful; throughout and on confirming not possible to insure, did say that as a Broker they had found another insurer who would be prepared to make a quote. This figure would be £900.00 plus.

My current renewal at an increase of over £60 since last year is some £413.00.

Not what I would call offering any kind of product service to its membership when a perfectly legal and road worthy vehicle (2018) does not even enter the starting gate for a quotation. Same policy of not insuring pick ups by the way at Saga.

Strange old world.

'Loyalty' seems to equate to 'Mug' these days. The internet helps of course and like others on here I have used compare/money market sites. It is a bit of a pain filling the questionaire in etc but there are savings to be made.

Btw I tend not to automatically grab the cheapest but prefer a name that I know as far as possible because you only find out how good they are when you claim!!!

I do tend to shop around a bit for car insurance, and generally use price comparison sites.  However, I tend to stick with the Club for House Insurance (because of the length of time they allow the house to be left unoccupied) Caravan Insurance (because of excellent experience of when I made a claim) and Car Breakdown/ Recovery.
