Hi all,

I just purchased the above through the club shop and it doesn't appear to be working correctly.

I punch in the route etc. but the screen doesn't centralise my route. I've selected auto Zoom and Track up as the Map View but the route is allowed to go off the screen and when I got to my distination although the spoken directions were correct the car wasn't on the screen at all - it was as if the GPS thinks it's somewhere else.

Am I missing something or do I have a faulty unit?

Thanks

Mark

Was it only when you got to your destination that this occurred or was it over the whole route? If it was just at the destination it could be the place you were stopped at was not on the map so it automatically locks on to the nearest road???

You might want to check it has the latest software update. I found the best way to do this is to download Garmin express on your PC, plug in your satnav & follow the on-screen instructions. Be warned it does take a while unless you’ve really fast broadband.

Re Avtex satnav powered by Garmin. I have Avtex satnav and it keeps giving me the message on start up "maps are corrupt do not use contact Garmin Express". Garmin advised doing a full up date of software and maps (although the device itself seemed to be fully up dated). None of the suggestions from Garmin worked, so they have referred me to Avtex to get things sorted, suggesting that there is a manufacturing problem within the device itself and that it should be replaced by Avtex. It is just out of Warranty.

My old TomTom was never a problem, but the 'premium' Avtex seems not to be up to much. I now await response from Avtex - fingers crossed !.

At least with Tom Tom the worst I have ever suffered is 'your destination is on the left', whereas it was in fact on the right!

Our old CMC Snooper is great.

Driving along then suddenly pinging showing us driving in the fields along side the road. Even on the motorway!

I dont I may add try to follow that particualt directionof the arrow.

I think most of there 'specialised' sat navs have problems.

Our Avtex tourer 2 has given us lots of problems on a recent trip to Belgium and The Netherlands.  Had switched it on at home so that it could find satellites on the move, but did not need to follow the route suggested.

On crossing the Channel I changed the name of the country before trying to get name of town.  The screen would only show the letter R highlighted and I could not start the name of any other town. On pressing the letter R the only town to show up was Rotterdam, which we did not want.  Even then it would show that it was calculating then stop at 80% and refuse to even refresh the screen.

Asked people more experienced and better qualified to answer our questions and they attempted to work the satnav but found it to be as we'd said - totally focused on Rotterdam only!

Gave up completely and navigated the old fashioned way with a Europe Atlas then a large fold out map of The Netherlands

Back home now and any advice would be welcome.

We have just bought a second hand one series device and had an issue the other day:
We have updated the maps etc, so all is up to date. I set the route and we went on our way. In the background I also had Waze on for the traffic.
Luckily we roughly knew our route anyway, but as we were in our motorhome we were interested in what route it would take us. At a junction it told us to turn left when Waze was saying right. I thought it should be right, but trusted Avtex and turned left. It then took us on a complete circle, all around the new forest and back to the junction?? It was then telling us to turn left again!
Plus I've noticed the maps are not as detailed on the actual campsite, where as Waze was.

Think we will bin it and get a Tomtom
