Exciting news - inspired by members' feedback, you can now access your membership card digitally on your smartphone or tablet. The card will be stored securely within our UK Sites App offering you instant access, convenience and ease of use. Find out more HERE

It is now just a matter of time until there will be a charge for being issued a plastic card - though it will be marketed as a "discount" in the same way as going paperless has been.  Remember you read it here first.

I think quite a few members (both on here and not) would have preferred the money and IT effort being applied to the small change required to make booking hard-standing v. grass available.

Perhaps they will bring in digital card only as part of a reduced price digital membership, πŸ–πŸ–πŸ– πŸ– and there goes the Tamworth squadron.

But here isn't representative of the club's membership, whatever those that post on here think. There are very many who use basic phones and are not up to date with all the latest gizzmos.

I do wonder who these legions of folks are without access to modern communications? It can't be an age thing. I am 10 days away from my 75th birthday and I have used modern technology as long as it has been available. I think in many cases it is a lack of understanding of the benefits that smart phones/computers bring to life. About 5/6 years ago I got Margaret a smart phone for her birthday despite protestations that she was more than happy with her small Nokia 6200, you would struggle to get it away from her now!!!

It's not "lack of access to modern communications", at least in my case, David.  The screens on mobile telephones are just too small for my engineer's fat fingers, so I use a tablet for the IT stuff and a perfectly adequate old cellular telephone for voice communications.

I'm just not with the idea of buying a new cellular telephone every 18 months.

Try a stylus, Nav. They’re ideal for those of us with fat finger syndrome and only cost penceπŸ‘πŸ»

Why would you expect to buy a new mobi every 18 months?🀷🏻‍♂️

The membership card won't display correctly on my phone, I can see membership number and valid from but not the actual number or date πŸ€” I will stay with the plastic version.. At the moment I go into reception armed with my wallet which contains payment and membership cards.. If I could use the digital card I would need to take both my wallet and my phone so its a pointless development in my opinion..

Perhaps we should un-invent the wheel for you.

And Rowenas post suggests to me that its optional to go digital ....

ED..read next post from SteveL.  Perhaps I should have explained better..I was of course referring to my (and OH) dismay at the app not including spouse/partner/second card holder.

OH always checks in at reception offering both cards...never been asked to present myself in person to prove the card...so will be interesting tomorrow when we (or rather OH) check in producing my iPhone.

And of course as OH thumb print is one of two authorised 'Touch ID' on my phone (in case I get hit by a bus !!), staff couldn't really argue against...

You need to be able to download the latest version of the App which is only available with the latest smart phone updates. An Apple phone needs to be 6s and later.

Perhaps the CC will start taking Apple pay or the Android equivalent, then you will just need your smart phone.

Ditto..We are both in our 79th year and virtually everything in our house is computerised in some way... from the humble door bell, through security, lighting (ext & Int ) heating even the blinds in the dining room are remotely controlled as is the garage door/drive lighting.

Like yourself, I have been using computers since they became available...my first in 1980 was one of the very first Apple models..with see through casing along the top...pre mouse and pre commercially available software..you had to write your own !!..So I taught myself 'basic' and from there the rest is history...which is why I suppose I am frustrated with the 'basic' addition to the club app..

My phone is android and I think its Google pay which you can use, but its a step too far for me.. I wouldn't want to go there.
