Why I Stay with The Caravan Club

I have been a member of the CC for over 30 years. I may have had two 2 year breaks. Originally I joined the club because it ensured that when I arrived on a site after a few hours drive I new that I could expect a reasonable standard. I did not require toilet facilities but, if a site had them. hey had to be clean. Prior to joining I had visited 2 private sites and not stopped!

I was happy with the club sites and there CL sites. More recently, over the last 7 or 8 years I have come to use hard standing pitches almost exclusively. This is a largely as a result of many wet summers and the fact that we are likely to caravan in any month except January, February or August.

I did not entertain the 'other club' as there sites never seemed as good from what I had observed. Over recent years there seems to have been an improvement in a number of Camping and Caravan Club sites. I have considered moving over to the other club purely for one reason. The reason is the ability to book an awning pitch on hard standing. For me this is an important consideration.

There are a number of CC sites that I will not use and avoid booking as they have very few hardstandings. For me the problem has been further compounded by the latest situation whereby a reported 8% of CC pitches have been downgraded from awining to non-awning pitches. These I think will be mainly hatd standing. This presents a further problem to me as I do not want a narrow non awning pitch. These recently downgraded ones would probably still be acceptable to me as I can live without an awning. If I book a non-awning pitch however I do not know what I am getting. Is it very narrow, slightly narrow or on tarmac. Who knows. If I book an awning pitch what proportion will now be on hard standing?

As a result I am, for the first time in 30+ years. considering switching to the Camping and Caravan Club.
