What's the point of the Handbook?

Is anybody else disappointed with the changes to the Club Handbook this year? I have tried to find any other discussions in the members area but failed.

In the past the Club has provided thorough and useful information in the Handbook for the benefit of it's Members. This year it has moved to being more a promotional holiday advertisement for Club sites, and lacking much useful information that many members use. Ok so most members can go online to get some details, but now it seems we have to. Maybe the Handbook is on it's way out?

Specifically there is the ABSENCE OF MAP REFERENCE points. Like so many caravanning people we love to take an Ordinance Survey map everywhere we visit, and check it out when planning a trip, it's so full of information on an area. We like to see precisely where each cl. is to plan out cycling trips to avoid large roads etc.

Another issue is the PRICE DISPLAYED for Club sites. So disappointing that the Club is trying to fool members by putting prices for one adult in the book, and NOT showing the correct FULL PRICE BREAKDOWN! Do most members travel alone? Seems unlikely. The previous handbook displayed a price for unit plus 2 adults, much more representative surely?

In the past the Club has provided thorough and useful information in the Handbook for the benefit of it's Members, and I for one liked it.

Just use search for sites, centre the cross hairs on your chosen area and hey presto they all appear with reviews (if any left), GPS co-ordinates etc.

The App can be even quicker and you might find it interfaces neatly with you sat nav when you check for directions.

Totally agree but as I said above if you read these are now few and far between but obviously sods law says you will be in a black spot just at the time you need it mostwink.  But if I were in one I would just drive up the road till I got a signal then use it.

Many apps allow off line use so a signal is not really required anyway and of course pre-planning means 99% of the time yo know where you are going anyway or if not and you are looking for a site all the C&MC ones even CL's are listed on other apps such as Search for Sites etc. normally with up to date prices.

Only if you have a phone that can do all that, and quite a few of us do not.

Ok so I choose an area to visit by map select CL s zoom in and choose a CL best located then click on that to get full details. I decide this one not for me and want to get back to the map to look for the next best location ..... cannot do it! Yes there are close at hand CLs yes there is a list, if you go back to map you get the the UK!

Probably still missing something or my pad, laptop or self is obsolete?

We don't use ours a lot either and certainly don't take it with us. Same with National Trust book and English Heritage.

Even if there is no internet signal details of CAMC, NT and EH are all available offline via their Apps. They don't update with the latest information of course, but then neither would a book.๐Ÿ˜€

i can see you are not well aquainted with the App JVB! You only neeed to be connected to the internet for member specific information e.g. CL phone numbers. All other information is available off line.

Harryb I have to agree with you, the website is not always the best when searching, especially for cl sites, especially using the map search. And that's assuming you can get online when away on a trip.

David, at least when prices were displayed we can get a general idea of price, as some sites eg. with fewer facilities are much cheaper, and many offer special prices. This really is not clear looking at the latest Handbook.

I don't understand why people have a problem with map search, open map, select sites/cl's or both and search, right click the site or Cl you want on the map, right click site name and open in new tab. You can open as many tabs (sites/cl.s) as you want to compare.

It's possible, but, as with the rest of the site is far from intuitive .... on any other site, 'ENTER' would start the search, but on the CC site it definitely doesn't.
