What is the point of joining a Centre ?  Many Centres give members a free rally book, many make members pay, and give a vote at the AGM.

Rally books can often become out of date the day they are sent to the printers so it is always recommended to view the Centre's website for current news and information.  So if you don't want a vote at the AGM and let's face it many committee positions are filled unopposed what are the advantages of joining a Centre ?

No point at all..

If you want to rally with any centre, as long as you are a member of the CMC you can attend.

If you don't want to rally, there is absolutely no point in even considering Centre Membership.

It offers an easy opportunity to access a new circle of "friends" who in part share the same values?

Much depends on the predicament in life we find ourselves, for us having access to rally is socially valuable.

You can rally with any Centre in the UK together with your Centre and non Centre friends anyway.  That's why I ask why join a Centre.

Our centre has negotiated a significant discount with Jewsons for gas - so it's worth my being a member just for that.

That sounds a good deal and a good reason for joining a Centre.  All the discounts I get are as a member of the C&MC not a Centre.

Indeed you can but somehow I expect if you regularly attend one for reasons of companionship then if not "joining" they might think you are simply "using" them, not ideal for developing valuable friendships?

That's exactly the point I'm making.  Non Centre members can attend any rally without the trouble or bother of ever organising one them selves.

Then guess it depends on whether you are someone who just wants to take or if you want give a little bit back.

I think that you are absolutely right.  I have been a member of the same Centre for more years that I care to remember but just conscious of the high number of non centre members on the rallies I run.

But Non-Centre C&CC members give a lot back.. They pay their rally fees and entertainment fees. The centres are never out of pocket.
