What are the limits ?

We were on a clubsite last weekend and were surprised to see a pretty large (7.5 ton approx)  horse transporter with accommodation turn up. No problem at all and this is not in any way a complaint but it did make us wonder what the limits are if any.

Yes that was the one I saw I got confused about the word on the front.

We were at the Camping in the Forrest site Cobleland at 5he bank holiday and a horsebox booked in and used a hard standing pitch there. No horses so they must just have used the accomodation bit.

I think it was the height that surprised us rather than the length. I would post  a photo but don't know how to :-(

I would have expected it to be covered by the site length restrictions, don't know of one for weight. Might get interesting on grass if no h/s available.

..Its only the same as some of the "Yank Tank Blocks of flats "that turn up

Don't these units 'horseboxes' go to events where horses run on grass, often across the grass? My wife works next to a builder of these things, they don't need a special licence to drive and are pretty empty, until you put horses in, so I would guess they are lighter than a similar sized, diemensional wise, MH.

The people driving them will be experienced as well. We used to go to a lot of horse events, seldom saw anyone having problems.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till you meet Rotel Tours on a campsite - the German bus hotel

I haven't seen that for several years, Euro. Are they still around? It used to be a regular visitor at North Ledaig and I've seen it in Eire.

It was at North Ledaig last time we stayed! A site to behold indeed! Some of the big fifth wheelers we saw on Exeter Racecourse were pretty hefty as well!

Write your comments here...There was one at the site we were on near Carnac two years ago and another one last year at Turckheim so, yes, they are still around.

I think there is something about non-standard stuff in the rules. If its ahorsebox and they are living in the living area and the horse area is empty it wouldnt be non standard but if the whole thing has been converted for human use presumably it would.
The 7.5 tonne shouldnt be too much problem - a lot of RV's are well above that.  Ours was small at just under the 7.5 but we never had much issue with it unless the ground was really wet.
There didnt used to be any restrictions on CC sites - if you could get it on it was fine, then the CC decided to put length restrictions on their sites which was a pain.  No weight restrictions (as yet) though.
