Towcar of the year EV range

I was interested in the efficiency of the electric vehicles in the Towcar of the year 2022 supplement with this months club magazine.  For me the key piece of information required was missing from the assessment, i.e. how far will it tow on a single charge. The range unhitched was quoted but the awards are for a Towcar so I assume that the towing range would be far more useful to caravan owners. For balance the mpg for fuel driven cars should also be added to the summary section on each car, it is a usual consideration when buying a car. Whilst comfort and towing experience are important so are practicality and running costs.

The supplement was devoid of virtually any facts and figures for all cars tested rendering it a useless aid if you actually wanted to buy a towcar.

Indeed - why has our club not provided stats for an EV tugging up hill, stopping at traffic lights, cruising at 60 mph, hill starts etc,?

It would be interesting to know - were they muffled by the supplier of the car? Did they not think we would wish to know?

Certainly I would not be in the queue to purchase an EV as a tug, based on the paucity of the information supplied.

It’s a subject many, many need to be aware of because it’s coming. What is a tow car if it can’t be considered for its towing ability, this will only feed into the EV fake news adherents🤷🏻‍♂️.

The "up to mpc?" is oft quoted ,a study carried out ,by an  engineering professor and published in a magazine i recieve from my old company  was very enlightening

The max "up to" mpc is at 30kph

If doing motorway speeds, the same vehicles will need a 1hour charge every hour

those figures were all solo vehicles

Kia are trying to get me to change my Sportage  2ltr diesel auto for the new EV6 ? but have yet to reply to my emails, asking what to expect mpc with a 1300kg c/van on the hook

Not that in this area are we able to have at home charging points as we are all terraced houses with no access for charging

The Kia will tow up to 1600 kg.

For what distance and at what speed?

The details are all out there, there is an ev tow car web site that lists the info plus the manufacturers spec etc. Towing range will depend on specific weights etc. I put a link onto another EV discussion but can't find it now, it's easy to look up.
