Rules obviously don't apply to everyone

Why is it that some people believe that club rules don't apply to them or is it that they just don't give a fig about them and how it may affect other members on site?

On a recent visit to North Yorkshire Moors site we witnessed 3 rules, or to be precise two rules and a site instruction that were being broken. The first was the old favourite, speeding. We were pitched on the main site road so all the traffic came passed us. I estimate that at least 50% were over the 5mph limit and some appeared to be well over. Interestingly, the worst offenders seemed to be motorhomes. One in particular went out each day but obviously couldn't wait to get back to his pitch judging by his apparent speed around the site when he returned. One car we saw overtake a pedestrian. Nothing wrong with that I hear you say. But the pedestrian was out for a jog and was running at quite a pace !

I haven't looked at the rules relating to dogs lately but I seem to remember, (but please correct me if I'm wrong), that there is one that says that dogs should not be left alone in caravans whilst the owners are away. One couple obviously thought that it didn't apply to them as they opened the caravan door to be enthusiastically greeted by their pooch that had been left in whilst they enjoyed a day out.

The third was a site instruction, a big sign on the service point opposite us stating 'Motorvans are not to use this service point'. Yes, you've guessed it, it was ignored by not one but two motorhomes whilst they filled their tanks with water. The problem that they seemed oblivious to was that they were blocking the main road around the site. Any vehicle wanting to get past had to drive partially off road across the front of two pitches, bouncing over a manhole cover in the grass as they did so. If either of the caravans or cars on the pitches had been any closer to the road there would have either been some damage caused or a traffic jam whilst they had to wait. It wasn't restricted to motorhomes though. One caravanner decided to stop with his outfit, obviously on his way off site, whilst he emptied his loo. His excuse would probably have been that he wasn't a motorhome so it didn't appy to him, neither did common sense by the look of it.

Rules can seem a bit tedious at times but the majority of them are set out for a good reason. Perhaps we should all start to abide by them especially when it could affect others.
