Pitch Fire Regulations

We have recently stayed on a CC site and was asked to position our caravan drivers side to the white peg which was in the left hand side of the pitch. As we have a continental caravan this means our awning would be on the grass as the door is on the opposite side to your usuall outfit.Obviously this was also not acceptable so we had to turn our caravan around and go noes in.Luckily we were not looking at a brick wall.We were always under the impression that the " A"  frame had to be within easy reach in case it had to be towed away quickly in an emergency.Has anyone got any info on this rule.
