Hi everybody, I've just been contacted by the "other club" (c&cc) regarding my membership. They have asked if I would like to change to a  " paperless" online membership, which means doing all bookings site searches etc. online, also reading monthly magazine online & not receiving any through the post, for a reduced fee of £37. Sounds good to me. I wonder, have the Caravan Club got any similar options? Every little helps as they say.Cool

The main reasons that I find the magazine handy is the updates on CLs. Not just the new ones and those that have closed, which eventually appear on here, but also the changes in information on sites, and the recommendations of sites that sometime appear.

Whilst I might not be looking at CL's there is usually the odd snippet of information in each magazine which you might miss if you don't at least scan through it. How often has somebody read something in the Magazine and as a result started a thread on this forum?

I am not sure what the benefit is of offering a reduced cost membership. As I understand it the magazine pays for itself through advertising based on circulation as audited by (I think) ABC. If the circulation drops because people are opting for a cheaper type of membership the logic is that those lost revenues have to be made up from elsewhere. Are people seriously suggesting they would dump CMC membership to save £5/10 a year?

I think nowadays we are all a bit more ECO minded even us old dinosaurs so even though the mag pays for itself there is a large environmental impact in chopping trees down, making paper, printing magazine, distribution etc. so the option to read it online/via app etc. really should be an option and pass on those savings to members?

I know we do not have the most ECO friendly hobby but as they say every little helps, plus it may get Greta back to school so she can finish her education rather than keep pushing her views down our throatssealed

Michael

The point I am trying to make is that generally the people that don't want the magazine (they are free to opt out of it now should they wish) are also the ones pushing for a price reduction in membership, I accept this does not apply to everyone. All I am suggesting is there might not be any overall cost saving that would pay for such a reduction. For it to work I think you would have to stop producing a printed magazine completely. As far as I know this idea has not been tested on members? Perhaps in another 5/10 years it might be a different story. Unfortunately printed magazines don't always translate to easy viewing/reading for and online format. That could be addressed if there were no paper copies as more thought could be given to the way it was laid out online.
