Marketing calls from CC

This morning I had a call from someone supposedly from the CC asking me about renewing my car insurance. In hindsight I should have asked them to quote my membership number to confirm it was from CC.  Their telephone number was withheld?

I have my caravan insurance with the CC and I do not recall giving the CC permission to contact me with marketing calls etc and giving the CC permission to pass on my details to third parties.

There was a lot of noise in the background and I had difficulty hearing the person and I could almost swear that I heard a dog barking in the background?

Do the CC indulge in this of marketing call as I make a point of ticking the boxes no marketing or third party contact?  We also have TPS on out phone number and it is also unlisted.

Has any one else experienced these marketing calls for items other than caravans and is it the norm for the CC to participate in this sort of marketing?
