Locked

A number of comments now have "blocked" against them. Why? and what does it mean?

I have just looked at the first page of every section and found only three threads that had been locked. I locked one of those threads as it was a duplication and I pointed the original poster in the right direction to continue the discussion. A second locked thread was where I was the last contributor but it was just an explanation and I made no mention of closing that discussion so a bit of a mystery as to why it was locked. If the OP here is referring the the Frustrating thread that is also a bit of mystery. I noticed that it had been locked so I contacted my fellow non staff mods and none of them knew any more than me. However if none of us have locked a thread we would be reluctant to reopen it without first raising the issue with Rochelle.  I appreciate that we are experiencing all sorts of funny things with the forum at the moment but can I gently remind people that under the T&C's moderating decision should not be discussed on open forum but raised direct with the CM

I don't see any discussion David. Just statements to the effect that it is ill mannered to close threads without explanation. Nothing to discuss really.

I don't think it's as much a case of querying or discussing a moderation decision but one of expecting the usual standards of common courtesy to apply when actions are taken.

Members should be treated by CC with the same respect we accord each other and the mods and, if someone made an error of judgement, a prompt apology and explanation would have smoothed ruffled feathers and gone a long way towards enhancing good relations. It's too  late now. Opportunities have been missed and most of us seem to feel quite miffed.

I also don't see any querying or discussion. It is not very easy to raise concerns with the CM when no reasons for locking are given. As Cornersteady says the software should record who did what when, so it should be a simple matter for that individual to be asked to give an explanation. If indeed it was nobody, and the system is locking and deleting posts, this is equally concerning.

The system may not record who locked a thread - it is CT after all. But the person that locked it will know and why.

I was the last person to post on the Frustrated thread, before it was closed without any indication of why, so as you might imagine I am a tad concerned. It had been off topic for a while, and I just added a fun post to a bit of banter, nothing untoward as far as I am aware. I do hope that I haven't done anything wrong or upset anyone, never my intention.  Does seem to be taking a long time to sort out......

It can't have been you TDA, I really can't see how which Obi-wan you would be could upset anyone. Which did you go for?

Am I right in thinking people are referring the the Frustrated thread? If that is the case I have tried to explain the action, or in this case the inaction of non Staff moderators as there are some who might rush to judgement. Now there may well be staff moderators whose job is closely connected with the website who may not yet be aware of the usual conventions we try to employ and just go by instinct. Having looked at the last five posts in the thread in question, which were off topic they may well have come to the conclusion rather than trawl through the thread and delete offending posts they felt their time was of the essence and so just locked the thread as it appeared to had run its course. I don't know that as a fact but I put it forward as a possible scenario. Rochelle is aware of this situation and no doubt will be taking on board what has been said here and providing information to those with moderator rights. As little more will be achieved by continuing this discussion I will now close to give Rochelle the opportunity to come back once she has investigated the points raised here. Thanks for the input
