Leaving the Club - finally had enough

After over quarter of a century we have decided that the CC has little to offer for us anymore.

The subscription provides little value for money. Discount on site fees is irrelevant if one cannot get booked in. Other discounts, ferry fares and insurance offers are often available elsewhere on the internet and not exclusive,

Site fees have risen out of proportion - what one gets now for what is in essence a shower, some electricity and recycling bins is ridiculous. The most expensive sites are pricing themselves out of the range of families with a modest/average budget, which is very sad for the future of caravanning.

The booking system is lucridous - popular sites being filled up for every weekend and just stopping others getting longer stays. But then closer the date, if one has the will to keep checking there are vacancies because surprise surprise booking are cancelled. The club will not release information on how many bookings are cancelled and yet refuse to go back to a deposit system that would stop the farce!! Over the last few years we have also increasingly noticed that sites that appear full on the booking system are not full during the time we are there. Cancellation up to 72 hours does not help those who need to book time off work in order to pick up the places left! It is a very biased system.

When issues are raised - like the booking system and its abuse; nothing is done or improved and the club now appears to operating solely for itself not its members. The values that I joined the club for, have been totally lost - all ithe Club is concerned about is its £100 million turnover!

Finally the new website is useless - trying to search discussions to add these comments was a total waste of time. It is far from user friendly for the occasional subscriber to discussions and is not much better for bookings. I am therefore very sorry if I have started a duplicate discussion - I am sure someone who spends a lot more time on here than me, will put me right!!!!

We have been members of the CC/C&MC for about 20yrs and still find it good value .The club sites are of an excellent standard ,the CL network is very good ,we enjoy the monthly magazine and its just nice to be a member of one of the leading clubs. We have never had any trouble with booking and never had a problem with the wardens even when in the 10yrs we had RV,s.We enjoy the National and have enjoyed meeting people along the way ,so will definately remain members.

I can see a time in the future when the club will have to reinvent itself the current crop of well to do pensioners that use the club will become extinct . Future generations of pensioners wont have the decent pensions that are current today . Look around the sites the average age must be 70 .It will become unaffordable to many people .

I dont think the hobby in its present form has much future anyway.Dragging big expensive boxes around behind big expensive cars after taking expensive driving lessons to pass an expensive test and living in houses with no space to park one and all thats without the effect of government policies on diesel/petrol cars. I think we should just enjoy it while can and if there is a future it will probably be in Motorhomes

No, they'll all be sitting at their computers having 'virtual' holidays with no-one to walk across their pitch, no kids enjoying themselves and no dogs weeing on the site. Where's the fun in that?

Just totted up the number of nights spent and booked for this year, going into next year... might be joining the OP and not be renewing this year too.

2017

C&CC sites - 14 nights

Commercial adult only sites - 37 nights

CAMC - 2 nights

CL/CS sites - 2 nights

2018

(because the C&CC take forward bookings which I'm happy to pay the substantial deposits for, to secure our future holidays. Can't be doing with the mad rush cat fight on that special day in December)

C&CC sites - 24 nights

Not sure the annual CAMC membership which is due later this year in November is worth bothering with. No particular reason why this has happened this year, just a change in tastes I think. However, I think the booking system in comparison to the other club is one reason why, it's difficult to plan ahead with this club.

I think you're dead right with this observation, motorhomes and camper vans are the future. (and this club know it!)
