Facebook - why?

Why do companies think it is so important to have a Facebook, Twit or similar account or page when there are millions and millions of people that do not belong to any form of  social media site and have no interest in  belonging to one?

Why do these same companies ask you to visit their social media media website to "like" them or to enter some competition or simialr which is not available unless you go to site.

I joined Facebook many years ago and was totally amazed at the amount fo drivel posted by even so called intelligent friends plus Facebook monitoring what you look at on the Internet etc.  I gave up on it and have never had any further interest.

Sounds interesting. And the general conclusion was? (If it was anything like my degree the answer will be - "it depends" but we live in hope.

No conclusion as such it was a module to study at level 6  Did write 4000 word assignment on the module though Frown

If you can post a link I would be interested to read it

Thanks peedee

Sorry don't have a link. I was googling "harvesting data+Facebook" at the time when I noticed it.You could try doing the same and see if it comes up.

Ok no problem. I might have seen it thinking about it. You are only allowed to use quality reference sources like MIT which is why I am interested where the club has sourced it's claim of 89%

No wiki references allowed for example Surprised

I have both FB and Twitter accounts, but have never used either. I registered in the early days of each simply to prevent anyone else using my preferred username. I guess I count towards the 89%

What they do is use sampling then extrapolate out so accuracy depends upon the methodology used. The sample size is important and it's possible to give a confidence factor.

Hi everyone,

We have set up this month’s Ask the Expert to focus on social media, as we can see that a number of you hold some concerns about The Caravan Club its presence on social media. This will give you the opportunity to have your questions answered live by our Social Media Manager, so if you have any questions, please direct them to this thread and we will be answering questions live on 12 Sept.

I would like to reassure you all - as this still seems to be a concern in other threads - that The Club’s presence on other forms of social media is not to replace Club Together; we actually regard Club Together as a social media platform (myself being part of the social media team!). We’re simply trying to give members more choice in how they engage with The Club.

I hope this has answered some of your questions
