Dear sir,

I read with interest the minutes of the Clubs annual general meeting held on 27^th October 2012.

The one thing that caught my eye were the photographs of 5 grey men is suits who are up for election or re-election to the Executive committee. I’m sure they are very nice capable people but….where are the women?

There are 15 members of the executive committee, only one is a woman. She must feel very lonely.

The lack of women is also apparent in the membership of the Club Council. Out of the 20 members only 3 are women.

In addition, almost all of those mentioned above are retired.

What is the club doing to address the gender imbalance? Does the club have either an Equality or Diversity Policy and is this implemented?

Is anything being done to attract new younger members to stand for election to the committees instead of extending the terms of existing members.

On principal I have voted against the re-election of four nominees to the Executive Committee for the reasons above and I think that re-electing existing members is lazy, can lead to organisational stagnation, prevents new ideas and can result in poor Governance.

I note that this years meeting is taking place once again in Central London. I know that it is relatively easy to get to London but it is expensive. This is a UK wide club so why not move the AGM around the regions.

Finally, the photographs of the 5 men standing for the Executive Committee are all pictured in suits. The website has more casual photographs. May I suggest that you include these casual photographs in the magazine.  I hate the thought of the club being run by boring retired men wearing grey suits and ties. No matter how nice and experienced they are.
