I've just opened my May edition of the Caravan Club magazine and of the 3 advert fliers in the packaging one was for "Special Pensioners' Hearing Aids" and another was for "Funeral Plans" (the 3rd being the Caravan Club's range of insurance products).

For goodness sake Caravan Club, if you want to make the image of caravanning more appealing to younger members and families please can you reflect it in the advertising!!!!

I think the best idea is status quo at present.

David

fully agree, can't see any disadvantages at all

So, in your previous post you thought that paying per person was the way to go, and two posts later you think that retaining pitch fees is the way to go?

Glad to see you are so positive in your views......

Just spotted this: It's been a while ago now, but just to clarify.  I agreed that we should pay a fee per person, but did not say that we should not pay a pitch fee, hence my second comment.

Glad you feel that I am being positive, Ian.

I certainly think that the Caravan and Camping Club have a bit of an advantage in appealing to those who can't yet afford, or don't feel as if they want to purchase a caravan.  Perhaps the Caravan Club will need to look at ways to diversify in the future?

Given the name of this club I think it would just not occur to the majority of tent campers that they could use CC sites. Having seen the tent pitches on some I doubt they wouldcome back if they did given the cost and the second class pitches if they used those sites.

The pitches on the three sites our sons have used when meeting up with us have been good. However, the proximity to the facilities at two were very poor. At Leyburn a long walk down the steep entrance road and at Trewethett Farm about a quarter of a mile walk, because they close the temporary facilities close to the tent area at the beginning of September. Morvich however was exceptional, close to the facilities, raised covered outdoor cooking area with tap. Extra pot washing facilities close by. Lounge area with TV and kettle for making drinks. Large drying room for wet gear. All for £12 per night. Which I think is excellent value and given the use it received this was clearly the opinion of many walkers.

The CC sites at Stonehaven and Forfar have the tent pitches, quite correctly, next to the Facilities block.

Some other sites are not so well planned, with the tenting areas being a long way away.

Those of us who have caravans and motorhomes don't need to be close to the Public Lavatories but those in little two man tents need to be.

A bit of planning would alleviate this anomaly.

Cool

Correct but the tent pitches are usually an afterthought so end up where they will fit.
