Booking Deposits to control Cancellations

I’ve seen several digressions elsewhere suggesting that the Club should charge deposits to control cancellations but I don’t think there is a specific thread for it.

Let’s try not to digress onto other interesting subjects, but focus on the pros and cons of charging deposits.

My view is that deposits may not be such a good thing as they’ll end up costing the Club more in administration which, in turn, will mean more cost to the membership. Instead of charging everyone, and then giving the majority back, I think there should only be a charge when a late change or no show occurs.

Are you for or against deposits and why?
