A Tale of two Wardens

We have just returned from a trip to the clubs Fairlight Wood site just outside Hastings and i have to say the warden at this site was one of the friendlyest and most helpful wardens i have met in my thirty odd years as a CC member and the site is very nice but the approach is a bit narrow and bendy. However its a 280 mile journey from where we live so we decided to break our journey to Sussex by staying one night at Wyatts Covert just off the M25/M40 junction. On nearing the site the sat nav sent my mate down a narrow lane just before the site which was not caravan friendly but we arrived on site at around 2.0pm.Now usually i will go in and sort the booking but this time the girls went in to pay for the pitches. Now its taken 4 hours to do the 170miles to the site so i get out too stretch my legs and walk forward to tell Bryan that we must avoid the narrow lane when we leave tomorrow.Halfway through this conversation i hear a voice

"now i,m not happy about the safety hear and when you two ladies Surprised have finished nattering i want the first van throught the barrier and the second one up to the barrier"

I turned to see Mr Warden standing there stoney faced. Now twenty odd years ago i would have taken real exception to his attitude but i said no problem mate and he opened the barrier with a remote key fob.The girls returned and we went to the pitches allocated (two none awning type) .Legs down, water and leccy connected and just then Mr Grumpy appears again.

"those vans are on the wrong side of the pegs"

Sorry mate i said we will move them over i replied.Just then my mates O/H says yes were sorry only the Mrs Warden did,nt say which way they should be.

"Oh yes she did says Mr Warden because i overheard your conversation when you were booking in and if you want to call my wife a liar you can pack up and leave now Surprised (he was in fact outside all th time opening and closeing the barrier while makeing smart arsed remarks to us.

At this point i had to intervene and said "can we just calm it down here mate nobody is calling anybody a liar and its just a genuine mistake with the vans position which we are going to put right. With that he said

"look were all members of the CC club.........or i thought we were.

And with that he turned and left.

Now i dont know what other members may think but we were all quite disappointed with that sort of welcome.Yes the vans had been pitched incorrectly but the guys attitude from the outset was out of order IMO.

peter.
