72 Hour Cancellation Rule - Irresponsible?

When we had heavy snow last month I cancelled a booking at Broadway as it would have been reckless to drive under the conditions we were experiencing where I live. The Police and motoring organisations were strongly advising people to leave their vehicles at home.

I phoned the site to cancel my booking and was told that as the roads were OK in that part of the country I would receive a penalty under the 72 hours rule. I now assume that some sort of black mark has been recorded against my otherwise good name.

I'd been looking forward to a weekend away and I was disapointed that I couldn't go but it would have been stupid to set off under those conditions. I did the right thing by cancelling and I'd do the same again.

The Club is acting irresponsibly if it penalises members for not driving motorhomes or towing caravans when it's clearly unsafe to do so.

I understand the reasons behind this rule but it hasn't been thought through properly. Surely the Club should be praising safer drivers, not penalising them.
