You surprise me Firedragon. I thought this Club embraced the whole of the United Kingdom, yet  you seem to be talking of a separate English national rally rather than a British one.

Inali

I have paid £95 for the duration of the rally, not including evening entertainment, but a couple of issues with your question, how do you know it's an uneven piece of grass, and what is wrong with low amperage electrics,I would say half of those attending would not select electric usage anyway. This is the first year of all electric pitches.Ralliers are used to using their own facilities so do not need site toilets and showers.

This National was fully booked in under one month of opening date and all information was under the events section of the Club website. The price was clearly indicated on the booking form.

Unfortunatley for you the original thread on this National has been "lost" on this new forum so you cannot read previous posts.

As far as I know if you stay at the Club Site Sandringham then you could visit as a day guest.I am not sure what the entrance fee is for day guests.

That is what is going on.

I quote from the National Brochure which can be downloaded from the CC website:

Pitching:
Pitches are all on grass, and may be sloping in parts. Please bring a supply of wooden blocks or wedges to level your outfit.

It would cost me 112.00 for 5 nights at Sandringham CC site on a hardstanding, with toilets, wash cubicles and showers, and washing up room and laundry, 16 amp electrics, television booster socket, access to CC wifi (I've paid for the year), etc (9.80 for one adult, 12.60 per pitch, per night) (sorry for the lack of pound signs - they come out as # - don't know whether my computer is playing up or if it is this forum)

No idea about 2018 yet eurotraveller, but Balmoral would be the Scottish National anyway. 2017 Scottish National is in Dumfries, 28 April to 2nd May, and the Irish National is in Trim, Co Meath 13th - 18th April. Not sure where the Welsh is atm, someone will know.

Inali, it puzzles me that you have only just heard about Sandringham from the new website, I take it that means this is your first visit to the Club website and presumably you are one of the members who bins their magazine the minute it arrives rather than read it too ?

Oh and yes, as I have already said earlier on this thread, if you wish to stay on the Club Site and visit the National you can buy a Day ticket on the gate, details are on my earlier post.

No, I do not bin my Club magazine the minute it arrives- I keep it for the month before the next issue comes, but confess I do not read it cover to cover. This is by no means my first visit to the Club website- I was a regular contributor to Club Together when it was first established, but haven't done so for ages due to health challenges etc. I thought as the website had been relaunched, I might as well go on it and have a good look around, so as to speak.

Come off it Eurotraveller, wink, I do know you have been here long enough to have been through that discussion before ! surprised

For newcomers though... The National encompasses ALL regions, England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland, however that doesn't stop the Divisions hosting their own if they so wish (and they do laughing)

Alison

PS Sorry Inali, of course I do remember you from the previous website, my bad ! Hope you are restored to reasonable health these days and still caravanning..

To Inali

Thats fine by me,if you need a "full fat" club site with everything it's fine by me.I have myself booked at least 4 club sites in the forth coming year, so I am not complaining, but you cannot compare a Caravan Club Club site with a National Rally venue.Having every single luxury you have pointed out is not what rallying is about.

This is what makes our hobby so different is each person has their own preferences and requirements.

Hmmm, a bit late then, first time I think the National has been booked up so quickly before the New Year. A pity really, I wanted to go but couldn't organised or arrange the time off to go quick enough!!

Is this because caravanning is becoming more popular or there's less space at Sandringham? frown

Hi Richard, difficult one to answer (and I suspect there will be quite a few differing opinions wink

Caravanning has certainly changed over the time we have been doing it, back in the late 80s when we started you always had to book up the National quickly to get in, and yes, there were more pitches back then but then we (like many) had a 10ft Sprite and you could pack a lot of those in a small space. Nowadays our unit is a lot bigger and regulation spacing is also bigger - so less units per area allowed.

The National also has gone through quite a change over the years, it has evolved (out of necessity) from a long weekend 'rally' of all different Centre members competing against each other in various sports and activities to the much bigger event that it is today, attended by all kinds of members.

I think you'll have to make your own mind up as to whether caravanning has become more popular or just the National laughing

2018 Scottish National Rally , will be hosted by the East Scotland Centre and will take place in Kelso at the showground with all activities and functions on site . Was very popular the last time the rally was held there , 2011 and 2004

What is the chance of the area for the National being increased? Without an increase I sense their will many disappointed Club members.

I believe we have got the maximum space we can have it is the rules re: spacing that then dictates the number of vans we can get in that space. Memo to self...book early next year regardless of where it is wink
