Enjoyable stay at Exeter

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities are kept very clean. Pitches are a good size with plenty of space between them. The site is excellent as a base for exploring the area with several towns and villages in easy travel distance. Good for cycling, we did the Exe estuary trail by travelling to towns on the trail. There are also trails in the forest next to the site. For exploring Exeter, there is a bus stop near the garage on the opposite side of the dual carriageway. There is a sharp turn from the south off the dual carriageway to get to the site.

Refurb or Close this site

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
This site could do with a refurb,/rethink!.. Lots of potholes in the roads and the site roads are narrow. With the new optional way of siting units, it is possible for units to be very close to the unit on the other side of the 'road'; 2 x chemical disposal points out of order (--- everyone had to use the point near the motorhome emptying point); the Service Points are only really places to fill up water - only one waste-water emptying point. A Serivice Point at Exeter is not the same as a Service Point on other CAMC sites - site map ought to reflect tbis difference. Poor system for late arrivals... If the gate is locked you have to leave the car and caravan at the gate, walk up to reception, collect the information sheet pinned to the door and walk all the way back to the car! If you are less good at walking, it's a bit of a treck... and if you are a solo caravanner, your van and car could be left at the gate for 10 minutes or so while you do the walk.

Long overdue a total refurb.

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
What can I say thats good about it, firstly the staff are very friendly and the facilities are spotlessly clean. Other than that the entire place wants bull dozing and starting again. The roads, once gravel, are now nothing more than mud and potholes with a sprinkling of stones and a large number of pitches are very sloped. You need wood blocks (wardens very helpful with providing some). Toilet facilities are out of the 1960’s and would not be out of place in a prison camp. One night stop over is about all it deserves, location is the only thing in its favour. Come on CAMC put your hand in your pocket and spend some money on it.

Never again!

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Overnight stopover 25/6 March 2024. Frankly, unless you are a racing enthusiast, stopovers are surely the only reason to stay here. We arrived halfway through a race in the pouring rain. The booking info from the Club is copious but failed to note that this was a race day. There are other race courses we’ve stayed at that would not take my booking on a race day. This site is exposed, has many puddles in the rain and has a mediocre standard of facilities. In my opinion the wiring of the hand drier in the boys’ room probably wouldn’t meet appropriate safety standards. At breakfast time there was a site-wide power outage. We left before it was fixed. One specific note: the turning off the expressway southbound is VERY tight and requires extra care and slow speed. Easy to overshoot too. Summary: we can find better.

Exeter Racecourse visit September 2023

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We use this site as a stopover on our way to Cornwall. Even after wet weather in August (some puddles still existing on 2nd September) the Site Managers, most pleasant, had kept the grass cut and the site in a more than acceptable condition. Indeed, they were cutting the grass on a few pitches to ensure the site is well groomed. A word of caution for visitors from the North, when going up the steep hill (A 38) and seeing the Racecourse site turning to the left, watch your speed as the turn comes on you quickly and it is a sharp turn.
