Why stay here ...

Appleton CL is located at the foot of the black mountains just outside the small village of Tretower and 4 miles from the quaint town of Crickhowell. The village of Tretower has an ancient monument, Tretower Court and Castle that is open 6 days a week to the public and this year opened a cafe and restaurant.

The Certified Location is south facing complemented with panoramic views that never tire and change gracefully with each season. The site is well screened from the road to allow privacy and some peace to enjoy.

There are ample bridleways and lanes to stroll and enjoy within the locality if you please. For those more avid walkers there is the peak of Pen Y Fan to conquer just outside the bustling market town of Brecon, which is only a stone’s throw away,.

Appleton is a small working farm with a difference so don't be surprised to see a white face of one of our nosey hereford cattle inquisitively watching you enjoy your stay.

We are fortunate to have a meandering tributary to the river Usk where you may be lucky enough to see the odd kingfisher or two which we have tried hard to conserve within our many environmental projects.

We hope you like the sound of the Appleton experience and look forward to welcoming you this coming season to enjoy a little slice of welsh paradise.

Beautiful location

Appleton
We spent our first night here, on our way into Wales. The friendly owners were happy to accommodate us on the day, and met us and shared local information, but were not intrusive in any way. The site is well kept and we enjoyed watching the horses in the neighbouring field. The views are incredible in every direction, this is a very special location that feels as if you are in an isolated spot away from everything, yet has good road connections to Brecon and Abergavenny and beyond. We returned for a second night here on our way back, and would certainly use this as a base in the future.

Lovely CL

Appleton
We booked for 5 nights, but ending up staying for 12! Situated on a 'A' road, intermittantly busy during the day, but did not impact us at night at all. We loved the endless treks up into the hills and exploring near and far by car (highly recommend a car). We pitched up near the fence and we're greeted daily by the truly inquisitive Hereford mumas and their calfs. WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. We will be back again for sure as 12 nights not nearly enough time to explore fully.

Lovely site, great access to walking

Appleton
A lovely site, which is fabulous for access to hiking the Black Mountains. Lucy v generously accommodated us at the last minute & met us at the gate. The site is brand new & has easy access to water, waste etc. The field is fenced in, with lovely views & friendly horses/sheep/cows as neighbours. No electric & so as close to wild camping as you’ll legally get but with all the necessary amenities for water, waste rubbish etc. Walking trails are literally across the road, we spent a fab day up in the mountains. We’ll be back anytime we’re in Crickhowell.

Pristine CL

Appleton
We stayed only a few months after the site opened, the layout of the site was perfect with regards to water and waste. Very easy access from road onto a concrete drive then into field with hardstanding type lead in. We pitched up alongside fence to enjoy the sheep and cattle frolics. The aproach road was shut further up due to roadworks, so we had the benefit of two extremely quiet nights. Wish Appleton all the best with their new venture.

Lovely site with very good access to the surrounding tracks and bridleways, We spent a lovely weekend exploring the surrounding countryside by bike. We made our way along the canal tow path and then around Talybont Reservoir. We pitched up next to the Herefords who were very curious. Owners are friendly and welcoming - would highly recommend the site.
