Fourth visit and happy to return

Rhiw Afon
We have just visited this site again for the fourth time and it was every bit as enjoyable as the previous occasions, despite the weather’s best efforts. The site is divided into two areas, each having three hooks ups. It is level and well kept. We stayed in the second area which is shielded from the road by the house. The gap between the bushes segregating the two sections was very narrow as the bushes had grown towards each other. This made access in and out quite difficult, however, I emailed Mr. Bradley about this and he has assured me it will be addressed. Next to the house there is a fresh water tap, external sink with hot water, rubbish and recycling, and the small outbuilding with a WC and shower. I have read the previous reviews with regard to this and, in my opinion, they are either a little harsh, or, improvements have been made. There are also laundry facilities, but we have never used these and so can’t offer any comments on them (although the fact they are available must be a plus). Situated as it is, the site is ideal for exploring Snowdonia, the Lleyn peninsula, Anglesey and surrounding areas. The owners left us alone for the duration of our visit, we only met them when we went to pay. This is fine for us, we are happy to be greeted but, equally, OK with being left to ourselves. Given all of the above we think £20 per night including EHU is very good value and we are happy to recommend this site to fellow members.

What a gem

Rhiw Afon
Had 7 nights here this week, blessed by glorious weather. The pitch was level and we pitched in the second field. Shower and toilet were a bit dated but clean and well maintained The showere was great, perfect temperature and water quickly drained away. The owner was very pleasant The views were stunning and we enjoyed some wonderful sunsets. The lay bye some have mentioned is on a very quiet farm road and we only saw one agricultural vehicle use it during our week. Good location for exploring the peninsula, if we are this way again this will be our site of choice

Enjoyable stay

We were on the pitch closest to the toilet and it was really level totally unexpected as on grass. We had a lot of rain but the water drained away very quickly. Andrew was very welcoming. I asked about the washing/ drying facilities and Andrew opened up the laundry room for me to use. Will definitely be using this site again in the future.

Just OK

Rhiw Afon
I’m afraid I don’t altogether agree with the previous reviews. The pitch was fine. Unfortunately the chemical waste seemed to be blocked (owners were away so couldn’t contact). The toilet facilities were very basic and old (we didn’t want to use them) says on website there is laundry facilities (which is why we chose it) but nothing there - Unless you want to use an outside sink. Rather disappointed.

Great location for the Llyn Peninsula

Rhiw Afon
Easy to find location, access a little tight. As mentioned a small lay-by outside does attract vehicles taking a break, sometimes during the night. There are two areas to pitch, we chose the first one, so a little further to the CDP and bins but not a problem. The pitches were mostly level with a gentle slope on one, were well kept and newly cut. A water tap is provided in both fields with ample electric points to allow a choice of pitch positions. Waste can be directed into the hedgerow. We didn’t use the facilities as prefer our own, however they looked clean when we looked inside. Recycling bins are provided and encouraged by the owner who was friendly and helpful. There is some noise from the road which can be busy, but it doesn’t detract from the tranquility of the stay. The house field will have less noise as buffered by the buildings. Good tv and phone signal on our pitch, but the first field is prone to a bit of wind from the west. All in all a good stay at a great site with excellent access to the Llyn peninsula. Recommend, the fish and chip shop near the castle in Criccieth - the very long queue outside was definitely a good sign and worth the wait. The nearby Goat Inn serves great food (advisable to book) and Portmerieon is worth a visit. Aldi, Lidl and Tesco in nearby Porthmadog and Asda in . The petrol station at Tesco is very tight - don’t take the van! Thanks for a great stay - we will return.
