Kinross is a small town in the Scottish Lowlands, close to Perthshire's southern border and right beside the beautiful Loch Leven.
It's a popular place for holidays, as there are so many opportunities for walking and cycling, not least the 12.5-kilometre Loch Leven Trail that starts at the nearby RSPB Vane Farm Nature Reserve.
There are also excellent golfing facilities, a play area for children and even an ice rink, thanks to the town's long tradition of hosting a curling team.
Don't miss the chance to take a boat trip around the loch to the castle either, as it is where Mary, Queen of Scots was once held prisoner and staged a daring escape in the 16th century. There might even be pink-footed geese if you visit in the autumn.
Within Kinross, the charming narrow streets house an array of little shops, pubs and cafes, so you won't be short of somewhere to browse, buy and enjoy a drink during your holiday.
