The historic buildings and medieval character of Douglas make this a fascinating place to visit and explore. On the south banks of Douglas Water, this rural village is also surrounded by wonderful hills and moorlands.
Nearby is the New Lanark World Heritage Site, where history is brought to life and there is plenty to do for the whole family – including a sound and light show and a ghost ride!
Why not walk the Clyde Walkway, which in its entirety runs from Glasgow City Centre right through to the World Heritage Site at New Lanark.
The village’s oldest structure is the ruin of St. Bride's Church, which originated in the 14th century. The church clock, which is still in working order today and installed sometime in the 16th century, is rumoured to have been given as a gift to the village by Mary, Queen of Scots, after spending time in the area.
