The Highlanders' Museum
A five-star attraction with 14 exhibition galleries including the late Queen’s Own Highlanders Collection.
View and BookOur CL is a quiet half acre site set on the Pentland Firth with beautiful sea and countryside views in all directions. The Castle of Mey is easily visible just 1 mile away, as is Dunnet Head, the most northerly point in Mainland Britain.
The site itself is situated in the house grounds, with a mixture of lawn and level, hard standing pitches. We are only a quarter of mile away from the coast, so are well situated for sea fishing and there are several lochs providing fly fishing with cheap permits within a ten mile radius. There is a bird hide on one of them just half a mile away. There are pleasant walks to two harbours where you can see seals and various seabirds and a stroll to the Castle of Mey, which is open from May to the end of September, takes you along the coast with spectacular views to the Island of Hoy. The local bus runs several times a day to Thurso, John O'Groats and Wick and stops at the end of our lane, about 100 metres from the site. The ferry terminals to Orkney are all within easy reach, the nearest at Gills Bay being just 4 miles away.
We are an adults only site, which because of its open aspect and occasional strong winds is not suitable for erecting awnings. We have facilities for charging your battery as well as fresh water and waste and chemical disposal points. If you have any special requirements, we will do our best to accomodate them. An added bonus is the " Caithness Breeze" which ensures that we are seldom bothered by the infamous Scottish midges.
