Facilities did not meet our expectations - stunning views though

Choraidh Croft
Stunning views and nice walks right from the site to the loch. However...we had booked this location as we prefer toilets instead of using the one in the van. We were quite disappointed as toilet facilities were very outdated and did not look like being kept clean, while price (GBP 30 per night for campervan with EHU / 2 adults) almost the same as a clubsite with full facilities. Did not visit the tearoom as it was already closed when we arrived and not open yet before we left.

North West Sutherland in June

Choraidh Croft
Accessing this CL near Durness does mean using single track roads, whichever direction you are coming from. On arrival the CL entrance is downhill off the road, past the cafe and into a small open area, with hard standings marked out, three at an upper level and the other two lower down. None of the pitches seem to be completely level so it’s best to be prepared for some work to level up, if that’s important to you. The on site water, waste and disposal points are all grouped around the entrance gate, though the electrical distribution points are closely positioned for the upper pitches, from the lower pitches a normal length cable will just reach up across the grass to the shared outlet points above. Views across Loch Eriboll are pretty much uninterrupted, and completely unspoilt. So this really is a rural idyll, as you are almost unaware of any passing traffic on the roadway and the site itself is peaceful and quiet. The owner is a mine of information about the locality and its history. Durness is nearby, with a well stocked Spar shop and 24hr fuel opposite. We managed a walk out to Faraid Head, which gives great views of the coastline and inlets, as well as the Smoo cave complex, and a walk around some fields commemorating the Highland clearances of the mid 1800s - plenty of interest here. And a zip wire close by - if you’re brave enough for it !

Perfect CL site.

Choraidh Croft
What a lovely CL site.if you are doing the NC500, or if you just want a tranquil site to explore the area, The views are outstanding. It’s just beautiful. And the little tea room is just amazing. Beautiful snacks. And local art and craft work. I would recommend this CL. I only stayed two nights but would definitely stay for for longer.

Easy access to lock

Choraidh Croft
This site had beautiful views over the lock from the site. The lock was in easy access to the site via a short walk through a wood. Ideal for pets, our labrador loved it here. Walks along the lock for as long as you like. Otters have been spotted here. The on site tearoom is lovely, we got take away home made cake which was delicious.

Stunning views

Choraidh Croft
This is a great site right next to the NC500. The views are stunning and the walk down to the loch shore is a must. Charles and his daughter Sam who runs the on site tea room are both friendly and helpful and there is a lovely range of crafts for sale too. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area we stayed for 3 nights.
