Why stay here ...

The Old School House campsite is situated within the 2 acre grounds of a beautifully restored Victorian school house situated mid-way between Tain and Invergordon. It sits in splendid isolation surrounded by fields with the forest as its backdrop. It is accessed directly from the famous A9 NC500 route and is conveniently just a few minutes from the nearest pub, supermarket and town.

Red Kites frequently drop in for a visit from time to time and deer occasionally wander up to the adjacent field at night. In April/May the fields are full of baby lambs and in October/November migrating geese land on the adjacent fields. The site is a short drive from five sandy beaches and breath taking coastal and mountain scenery can be viewed within a short drive from the site.

The site is ideal for keen walkers with numerous coastal, forest, hill and nature walks close by suited to all abilities. The owners welcome well behaved dogs and have gone to great lengths to make sure that your pet has a great stay too. This includes a one acre fenced playground with toys and agility challenges as well as communal water bowls.

The location of the site is ideal for exploring the Scottish Highlands and Islands as well as having numerous local attractions close by such as five castles, numerous distilleries (the famous Glenmorangie distillery being just down the road) and miles of forest walks and tracks including bike trails. There are golf courses at Tain and Dornoch nearby. The Seaboard Peninsula starts from just across the road from the site and is a treasure trove of undiscovered historical gems, places of interest and local folklore.

Tain, just five minutes away, has much to offer the tourist, including a local events calendar, a museum and galleries and shops. It is well worth a visit and there is a good choice of places to eat out or buy a takeaway.

There are lots of amazing experiences to choose from – cruise boats at Loch Ness; a ride on the famous Steam Train at Fort William (just two hours away); the natural gorge at Evanton made famous for its inclusion in Harry Potter; the NC 500 route itself; winter sports in the Cairngorms just over an hour’s drive away; dog sledging; whisky tours. There is just too much to list.

The site owners are continually developing the site. Five electric and individual water access points have recently been installed – one for each guest. An honesty shop is being developed on site providing local produce and essentials for guests. A hen coup and run is nearing completion and will soon house some feathered residents to delight the guests and provide fresh eggs for sale.

The site is particularly suitable for larger vans being easily accessed thorough wide gates straight off the A9 onto a site which is completely flat.

One Night Stop - We Will Definitely Return

An immaculate site which has clearly been set up to the highest standards. Angus gave us a great welcome and is clearly proud of the site, which is well located for touring. He even offered to drive us (and our dogs) to a nearby eatery! Nearby walks and easy access to... Show more

Good site if travelling the NC500 route

We stayed here for one night whilst travelling in the area. Although we were not following the NC500 route, this site is directly on the A9 route. and makes for an ideal stop off. It is accessed from the main road and is subject to some traffic noise but this did... Show more

Lovely site

This is a small well kept site. Lovely surroundings and friendly owners. There is traffic noise from the A9 but it drops off at night and didn't bother us during the day. Plenty to do in the area so worth staying more than 1 night.

Warm welcome at The Old School House

We stayed at the Old School House for one night on our way to the Orkney ferry. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and we'd recommend this CL. The site itself is lovely, plenty of space, flat pitches, and good facilities. You look out onto fields and woodland. Of... Show more
