Dingwall is a small but superbly situated town north of Inverness. It has its own whisky distillery and is home to Ross County Football Club, who have a fierce local rivalry with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Inverness is easily reached and as well as its castle and cathedral, the city offers plenty of places to eat and drink. Those interested in historic sites can visit Culloden Moor, where the last pitched battle on British soil took place in 1746, an event that saw the decisive defeat of the final Jacobite uprising.
Local Highland scenery includes Loch Ness and the nearby Munro of Ben Wyvis, while the coast of the Black Isle just to the west offers whale and dolphin watching opportunities.
