Dumfries Museum & Camera Obscura
Centered around a windmill a historic astronomical instrument gives panoramic views across the countryside.
View and BookHemplands CL is located on a 190 acre sheep and arable farm which is run by John & Nessie Carson.
The site has panoramic views over the beautiful Nithsdale Valley- to the west we overlook the town of Dumfries (5 miles) and Criffel Hill (14 miles) while south, on the horizon, across the Solway Firth, we can see the Cumbrian hills.
This is a tranquil and relaxing site where guests can enjoy the scenery and walks but have a convenient base from which to explore the many and varied attractions of Dumfries & Galloway.
In a radius of six miles from Hemplands, guests have access to a variety of activities and attractions including golf courses, cycle trails, walks and fishing. The pretty small town of Lochmaben is four miles away and has three main lochs, a golf course and many interesting walks. There is a regular bus service on the A709 from the bus stop in Torthorwald village (1.3 miles) to Dumfries/Lochmaben and Lockerbie.
Within 30 minutes drive from Hemplands members can explore the Solway Coast and the small towns and villages of the area including New Abbey, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Thornhill, Lockerbie and Moffat. Visitor information packs are available on site and we will be happy to help with suggestions if required.
We are also well placed to provide a quiet and restful overnight stop for those travelling north or south as Junction 18 on the M74 is only 9 miles away and the A75 is within 4 miles from us.
We welcome dogs and walking/exercising facilities are available.
Nessie and John look forward to welcoming you to Hemplands. Our farmhouse is adjacent to the site so we are on hand to assist you if required and our aim is to make your stay with us as happy and carefree as possible.
