Edinburgh is the Scottish capital and home to half a million people. It is a beautiful city filled with historic buildings, from the castle and the ramshackle 'old town' dating from medieval times to the Georgian 'new town', with both the old and new towns holding Unesco World Heritage Status.
There's so much to see and do in Scotland's capital, but take time to explore what lies outside the city.
Head south of the city to the spellbinding Rosslyn Chapel, famous from the blockbuster, The Da Vinci Code, and then see the charming landscapes of the Scottish Borders. Or, you could book a guided tour to the historic town of St Andrews, lying north of Edinburgh in Fife, to take in its impressive beaches and the crumbling ruins of its cathedral.
You can also take day trips (including tours) to a distillery – if you fancy the idea of trying whisky whilst in its homeland, or visit Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
