The market town of Melksham in Wiltshire lies just south of Chippenham, right on the River Avon and adjacent to the beauty of the Cotswolds.

It's a great place to visit to get away from it all and enjoy some rural walks, but the town prides itself on its programme of events too, so there should be something for everyone.

Check out the historic quarter in the town centre for Church Walk, Canon Square and plenty of other important buildings and enjoy a bite to eat at one of the many cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Particularly good walking trails include the Riverside Walk and those within the Conigre Mead Nature Reserve, so it's well worth pulling on your boots to enjoy them, but you can head further afield along the Avon should you fancy a challenge too.

You'll also find a range of independent shops within the town, which is ideal for purchasing souvenirs and local produce to use at mealtimes.

Annual events held in Melksham include the Scarecrow Trail, Melksham Music Festival, Melksham Comic Convention and the Christmas Fayre.
