Newcastle-under-Lyme is a market town in Staffordshire that dates back around 800 years and has plenty to offer visitors. 

The attractive town grew up based around silk and cotton mills, before switching briefly to porcelain tableware and then brewing. Nowadays, Newcastle-under-Lyme boasts a busy nightlife, with a number of bars, nightclubs, restaurants and pubs, while during the day there are plenty of shops to explore. 

For culture fans, the New Vic Theatre is the place to head to. It was the first purpose-built theatre in the round and has a busy calendar of events, with a whole host of productions. 

The Borough Museum and Art Gallery is also worth visiting as it takes a look back at the rich history of the area. Highlights include a life-size Victorian street-scene complete with shops, while the art gallery showcases work by both local and national artists.
