Why stay here ...

Meadow Cottage CL is a peaceful level field situated near the Somerset/Dorset border, just 1 mile from the A303, equidistant to Sherborne to the south and Castle Cary to the north.

It is a very good base for a touring holiday in the south-west, or as a stop-over on your way from London to the west country or vice versa.

We are a 5 minute drive from Haynes Motor museum, 15 minutes from Yeovilton Air Museum. The Jurassic coast resorts of West Bay, Lyme Regis and Weymouth can all be reached in under an hour and Stonehenge is a 40 minute drive east.

Due to the CL entrance being on a narrow lane we can only accept single-axle caravans and small motorhomes (max 7.5 metres).

We provide 16 Amp hook-up and free Wi-Fi.

The small village of Weston Bampfylde has a licensed farm shop, a dog grooming parlour and a beauty salon.

A pleasant 20 minute walk on footpaths leads to a dog-friendly pub in South Cadbury which serves good food every day. There are also several other pubs in the area just a short drive away.

Our nearest large supermarkets are in Wincanton (Morrisons and Lidl) just off the A303. The nearby village of Queen Camel (2 miles west) has a Premier store which is open 8am-9pm every day and Sparkford Services has a Spar and a McDonald’s.

There are three National Trust properties worth visiting in the area: Stourhead, Lytes Cary and Montacute.

On your approach to Meadow Cottage CL you will pass through Little Weston which has a farm that makes very good cider, which can be purchased direct from the farm (a pleasant half mile walk from our CL).

We are a working smallholding with pigs, geese and chickens and welcome well-behaved dogs with some fantastic walks straight from our gate.

We don't have any hidden fees but we do ask that you only use breathable groundsheets.

The approach road to the CL is also Sustrans bicycle route 26. It is a country lane with passing places therefore we ask that you don't arrive before 12:30 on your arrival date and you leave before midday on your departure date making sure vans don’t meet on the lanes.

If you have any questions about the CL or the local area, please don't hesitate to contact us.

A goose welcome

Well we just loved every minute of our time here, especially the entertainment of the Lamar pig & geese ☺️. If you have a love for animals then you won’t want to leave. A cider farm around the corner & a stroll to the pub with great food & very accommodating... Show more

What a lovely spot. We wish we had stopped for at least another night.

We chose the CL for a two night stay in order to visit the Fleet Air Arm museum which proved to be an easy five mile cycle ride on back roads away. The site suggests that access may be tight, but although care is needed for the last half a... Show more

2 weeks of bliss - wish we had stayed longer

We booked Meadow Cottage CL so that we could explore a new part of England. Julie was very charming and helpful from the outset whilst we juggled our dates. The site is a delight - a good sized mown field with plenty of space for 5 vans to spread out. This is the... Show more

Tranquil site with warm welcome.

I cannot recommend this site enough. The owners offered us a warm welcome and gave a very detailed guide to the area. The site is only a mile from the A303, but you can barely hear it. The sights of the animals on site make a welcome diversion and I personally... Show more

Brilliant site in great surroundings

We stopped at this lovely CL for a night on our journey both to and from Sussex and Cornwall. Julie was very friendly and welcoming, explaining where everything was located and offering further help if needed. The Covid precautions were excellent with barcode scan points and anti-bacterial sprays available. Peter... Show more

An absolute gem.

This is a gem of a site. We only used it for a stop over as it is so convenient for the A303. The grass is well kept. The views are great. Watching the geese, the alpacas and the pig in the adjoining field was so good. The welcome... Show more
