Why stay here ...

An award-winning caravan site in the beautiful lake-lands of Shropshire. Voted ‘Best Small Site’ in the UK by readers of ‘Practical Caravan’ magazine in 2014, 2013 and 2012. Caravan Club "CL of the Year" 2007. Regional winner 2006. This family-run site was established in 1982 and is on a quiet field with easy access on a former farm.

Featured in the Club Magazine in February 2005 with the following praise: "a nice CL from which to marvel... spacious... hook-ups... woodland walkies track... information packs for newcomers... Great Site, lovely location and always a warm welcome..." The owners are active caravanners and Club members in their own right.

Ellesmere is a friendly little Saxon market town in the middle of Shropshire's beautiful Lake District. It marks the junction of the rural Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canals. The CL enjoys pleasant panoramic views across a wide expanse of green gently rolling hills and on a clear day you can see 9 counties.

A good base for a short stay or longer holiday. The CL is just 2 miles from North Wales and within 20 minutes to about an hour you could be at one of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites or numerous castles, historic houses and National Trust properties. Birch Hill is on one of the main Land's End to John o'Groats cycle routes and Ellesmere is a lovely spot for country walks and bird-watching, especially around the Meres.

The site is located over 200 metres up a private drive. It is discretely away from the public road with pitches in sight of the farm, which is in a pleasant, safe, rural back-water. Access for caravans is good, with wide gateways and a Tarmac drive. The drive is about a quarter of a mile from the lane, which reinforces the feeling of a quiet secluded site. Birch Hill is close enough to a quiet 'A' Road to give easy access, but far enough to be away from road noise.

Please check our website for availability and booking calendar.

Dogs very welcome (owners have a Golden Retriever called Amber).

Dedicated tap for each pitch situated nearby.

This is a lovely site, very spacious with water taps for each unit. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. The site app is very useful for local info. Great location for visiting local sites etc.

A lovely spot!

Good pre arrival communication, possibly slightly too much for us but I understand that some people may disregard some information. The site app is very useful, we read it beforehand so didn’t really need the owners briefing on arrival but again, I understand that some people might not read information for one reason or another. It was nice to be met & welcomed personally. The site is beautifully managed & maintained. Your own dedicated tap, two Elsan points & many places to choose to pitch. Lovely surroundings, the area is interesting & there’s lots to do & see along with cycling & walking if that’s your thing. All in all a cracking site & a great stay, thank you.

I wish all CL’s were run like this. Everything well thought through and implemented on this site. Beautiful location with views of several counties on a clear day. Excellent reception from the friendly owner and we had plenty of choice of pitch as only two others on site during our two day, mid week visit. The site is very quiet and facilities on hand and very well looked after. All run with - (dare I say it) military precision. Well done to the owners, it’s a credit to you. Keith and Jan Holloway

We (my wife and I), love cycling with our E-tandem and this site is so convenient for access to some of the finest cycling countryside with miles of quiet lanes. As well as that, the site is lovely and quiet with loads of space. Well recommended.
