Mud Mayhem - Rufforth, Nr York
A 4x4 off-roading mud filled terrain experience as you try to overcome the plethora of challenging obstacles.
View and BookRed House provides the perfect environment for a stay with your caravan. It forms its own little world of peace and quiet surrounded by wildlife, horses and a lot of history. The spacious CL site is set in the middle of the 70 acre estate with fields all around where horses and sheep graze. During the summer months there is a heated outdoor pool available for use (no extra charge) and a grass tennis court set in the walled garden. In the grounds of the estate there is the moated site of the original 14th century hall and the outstanding 17th century chapel (open to view in daylight hours).
There are plenty of walks straight from the site which can take you along the banks of the River Ouse, through the 100 acre Redhouse Wood (famous for its bluebells) or along country lanes to places like "Thickpenny" or "Nether Poppleton".
The cycling routes which run through the estate can take you to York city centre (6 miles) or out into open country to the site of The Battle of Marston Moor (4 miles).
There is easy access along the A59 and ring road to York's Park and Ride system (5 miles).
Fishing permits are available from the estate office for course fishing on the River Ouse and the adjacent Redhouse Lagoon. There are also several local fishing lakes, all within 4 miles.
During spring and summer months we hold equestrian events close to the CL site and these provide plenty of entertainment, particularly during the Wednesday evening show jumping.
At Red House you are never far from wildlife, there are regular sightings of deer, foxes, bats and hedgehogs. With all the nearby water there is abundant birdlife and skeins of geese fly over the site almost all year round. Bring a bird feeder with you and you will get a closer look at the varied, smaller bird life.
We are continually working on improving the facilities - we have a new electrical installation with 16amp supplies to each pitch, and a new chemical waste disposal system, both fitted in 2012.
CL Manager is Mr Robin Gordon. More details are available from the highly informative and up to date Red House web site where you can also find out pitch availability.
