Why stay here ...

Red House provides the perfect environment for a stay with your caravan. It forms its own little world of peace and quiet surrounded by wildlife, horses and a lot of history. The spacious CL site is set in the middle of the 70 acre estate with fields all around where horses and sheep graze. During the summer months there is a heated outdoor pool available for use (no extra charge) and a grass tennis court set in the walled garden. In the grounds of the estate there is the moated site of the original 14th century hall and the outstanding 17th century chapel (open to view in daylight hours).

There are plenty of walks straight from the site which can take you along the banks of the River Ouse, through the 100 acre Redhouse Wood (famous for its bluebells) or along country lanes to places like "Thickpenny" or "Nether Poppleton".

The cycling routes which run through the estate can take you to York city centre (6 miles) or out into open country to the site of The Battle of Marston Moor (4 miles).

There is easy access along the A59 and ring road to York's Park and Ride system (5 miles).

Fishing permits are available from the estate office for course fishing on the River Ouse and the adjacent Redhouse Lagoon. There are also several local fishing lakes, all within 4 miles.

During spring and summer months we hold equestrian events close to the CL site and these provide plenty of entertainment, particularly during the Wednesday evening show jumping.

At Red House you are never far from wildlife, there are regular sightings of deer, foxes, bats and hedgehogs. With all the nearby water there is abundant birdlife and skeins of geese fly over the site almost all year round. Bring a bird feeder with you and you will get a closer look at the varied, smaller bird life.

We are continually working on improving the facilities - we have a new electrical installation with 16amp supplies to each pitch, and a new chemical waste disposal system, both fitted in 2012.

CL Manager is Mr Robin Gordon.  More details are available from the highly informative and up to date Red House web site where you can also find out pitch availability.

stayed 09/10/21 access to the cl a little sketchy for underlug tanks few dips in the road but do not let this put you off you wont be disappointed when you get to the CL. met by jill at reception and check in could not be easier you get a welcome pack that has all the information you need the grounds are really well kept and so are the facility's also the pitches we stayed on the grass ones we immaculate felt a bit naughty driving over the such well kept grass. lovely circular walk by the Ouse id say 3mile ish will definitely be returning next summer so we can have a dip in the free heated pool cant rate this spot highly enough 10/10 for us.

Red House
Just spent 6 nights on this delightful site. It was very wet and soggy but a choice of 2 hard standing pitches was great. We chose the first pitch nearest to the house which had no problem with noise or privacy. The welcome pack showed footpaths and bridleways direct from site which was a great bonus for our field spaniel. Great base for everything. 5 minute drive to park & ride £3.20 return into York. Will definitely return.

Superb CL

Red House
Brilliant CL with excellent access into York using the Park & Ride. Beautiful CL in a lovely setting. Lovely watching the horses in the fields and excellent unspoilt walks along the river. Nice toilet block. Road in is a little bumpy but no issue if driven sensibly. Would 100% recommend and would definitely return if in the area again.

Red House
Had booked, with deposit, months ago but due to gales had to postpone our trip. Family very co-operative to rebooking new dates. Site matches all previous descriptions, immaculate and quiet. Handy for the new Poppleton Park and Ride, 3 miles away....we will return as enjoyed everything about it.
