Richmond is a beautiful market town in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, with Norman castle, Georgian architecture, a large cobbled market place, museums, monuments and abbey. Below the town, the River Swale flows.

Founded by the Normans in 1071 the town grew up around the castle built on the 'riche-mont' or 'strong-hill' that gave the town its name and whose massive keep dominates all other buildings around. Its unique character and beauty have changed little over time and still inspire painters and poets to this day. and there is magnificent views and scenery all around.
