Quick Update from last year

Holly Tree Cottage
I reviewed this CL last year and if you want a full report please refer to that. Nothing has changed in the last 12 months but did want to reassure any reader that despite the torrential rain that has battered the UK in the last fortnight, including some fairly hefty deluges in this part of Norfolk, that there was absolutely no sign of boggy ground underfoot. I daresay the dry summer experienced here has helped but we were impressed by conditions. Otherwise Mr. Oldfield (Gerald) remains a most genial host.

One in a lifetime find.

Holly Tree Cottage
My wife & I visit North Norfolk a lot , we thought we knew Stanhoe & the area well..... how did we ever miss this gem of a site. Quite, peaceful , a lovely piece of heaven about 1 acre of grass sheltered on 4 sides by high hedgerow or trees. The 5 spacious pitches are on the northern border , grass is an understatement... lawn would be a much better description that's how Mr Oldfield keeps it.... immaculately. Easy access & we'll signed Mr Oldfield had 3 signs outside so you couldn't miss it. Wildlife in abundance and at this time of the year.. the birdsong was amazing. One fresh water tap , waste bins including recycling & chemical disposal point. What more would you ever need..... a pub... yes.... about 30 yards away THE DUCK INN. Nice.. but can be expensive but you are on holiday.... aren't you. We came home today.... but August is already booked... 😀

Truly outstanding site

Holly Tree Cottage
An immaculately maintained site. Very spacious. Slightly sloping. Mr Oldfield is a true old Norfolk boy. Very welcoming & outstandingly helpful. The site entrance has poor visibility when leaving but Mr Oldfield is very enthusiastic about guiding you out if he sees you. The Duck Inn is next door. A very high-quality gastropub but reasonably priced. It is very popular so booking is essential.

Peaceful haven

Holly Tree Cottage
It's a few years since we first stayed on Mr.Oldfield's site but it only seems like yesterday, especially in view of the warm welcome we received from him. There is plenty of space in which to pitch and you are not necessarily restricted to the 5 post markers. Bring an extra cable just in case. It is all grass but it does drain well, albeit the grass tends to be a bit slippy if you are heavy footed, otherwise it is fine. It slopes from north to south and a bit from west to east but we were able to get level without using blocks. It didn't interfere with the awning either. The usual water and elsan points are available and are neat and away from each other. Rubbish is recycled and the owner asks that you adhere to this. There is excellent protection from the northly or westerly winds that predominate here as the hedge provides a great barrier. In fact the site is well protected wherever you are. Because ti is sited behind the bungalows fronting the road the noise from this is muted. There is a pub next door but its more of a gastro pub but with good reviews. There is no convenient dog walking from site and you would need to take Fido off site for his walks.Docking and Burnham Market are nearby for essentials and Fakenham and/or Hunstanton have supermarkets. The wonderful North Norfolk coast is about 6 miles away. This CL is exactly what we like about CLs and will return a lot sooner than our last visit.
