Why stay here ...

During your stay why not visit the RAF Memorial Flight at Coningsby which is an easy 20 mile drive away – historic aircraft include Spitfires, Hurricanes, Dakotas, Lancaster and Chipmunks.

The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) hangar is located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby and viewing the Flight’s historic aircraft is available only by guided tour which last approximately 1 hour. For full details on opening times, admission charges, and planning your visit please go to BBMF Visitor Centre Website.

Other suggested day trips include:-

  • The market town of Sleaford (15 miles) or Boston (10 miles). Why not take an easy drive into Grantham - best known as the birthplace of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and the place where Isaac Newton went to school.
  • Take time to visit Spalding in the South Lincolnshire Fens where you could visit The Baytree Garden Centre which  has a café offering traditional home cooking using fresh ingredients. Or take a trip on the Water Taxi linking Springfields Outlet Shopping and Festival Gardens to Spalding Town Centre – the relaxing cruise lasts 30 minutes.
  • Take time to explore The Gordon Boswell Romany Museum – superb traditional Romany horse-drawn Vardos (caravans), carts and harness. Talk to the owner about enjoying the rather unique “Romany experience” a 7 mile drive in a Romany Vardo – stop to tether the horses, make a stick fire and then enjoy a steak meal.
  • Or get closer to nature by visiting the wonders of the Wash at the RSPB reserves at Frampton Marsh and Frieston Shore.

There are several National Trust Houses in the area and these include:-

  • Belvoir Castle and Gardens open from Sunday 13 March and includes the Lost Landscape of Capability Brown.
  • Belton House – a Grade I listed country house in Belton near Grantham – surrounded by formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a larger wooded park.
  • Tattershall Castle – a splendid 15th Century moated red brick castle set in beautiful grounds.
  • Consider visiting Thorpe Camp – home of the 97, 619 and 617 (Dambusters) and the 627 Squadron who flew out of RAF Woodhall Spa in the 1940s.
  • Kinema in the Woods is a cinema in Woodhall Spa which dates back to 1922 and is the only fully functioning cinema in the UK to employ back projection.
  • There is a regular Tuesday walk in Donington everyone welcome and Donington is also the birthplace of Matthew Flinders who was an English navigator and cartographer.

There is a dog walk on site and we can offer cycling directly from the site – we are an adult only and fully lawned site set in a peaceful and quiet location.

During the last week in April each year there is a Church Flower Festival held in Donnington Church and other local churches where visitors can see beautiful themed flower displays. Some of the churches have stalls and and offer snacks. Please ask Lynda for more details.

Lynda and Graham look forward to welcoming you to their CL.

Quiet

Quiet Very rural Local village pub, chippy coop and takeaway Cycling is flat but for us no destination to cycle too Wouldn't return - not for us too isolated in a MH with bikes
