Heckington Windmill
The only eight sailed windmill in the country. Featuring award-winning Edwardian Tea Rooms and micro-brewery.
View and BookWe have a level grass site in the heart of the countryside. Only one and a half miles away is the village of Metheringham that boasts several pubs, restaurants and takeaways. There is also a coop with a cash dispenser if needed. The walk is a mile from the top of the farm track, a very relaxing 25 minutes into the centre. We also provide some hardstanding.
If getting away from it all with peace and quiet is what you are looking for, then this is the place to visit. We have an abundance of wildlife - stoats, foxes, hares and other mammals are often seen. It is an Ornithologist's heaven! We have little owls, barn owls and tawny owls on the site. The scenery is a delight to paint and because we are on the fenside, the sunsets and sunrises are stunning! We also have a beautiful planted garden and lovely trees on the site. We have absolutely no light pollution so it is a stargazers delight and shooting stars, satellites and comets trails are a regular occurrence.
We are away from busy roads and traffic fumes. There are many walks leading from the site and cycle routes as well. Dogs are allowed on leads (we have sheep and game cover in the fields nearby) and again good long walks for dog owners.
Private bookings are available in advance for the outdoor heated swimming pool situated in the village.
There is a bramble hedge along the side of the field covered with butterflies such as comma, red admirals, peacocks, small tortoiseshell, painted lady etc. We also provide a flush toilet with basin and cold water only and drinking water. We have a chemical toilet disposal point and five electric hook ups. Nearby we have fishing lakes and golf courses and horse riding.
The local area promotes a 1940s weekend in Woodhall Spa just a 15 minute drive away, and the market town of Horncastle has an abundance of antique centres. We also open for the Lincoln Christmas Market - full of wonderful atmosphere.
Lincolnshire is famous for the Dam Busters and the Lancaster bomber and there are museums close by promoting this. The Bomber command memorial centre is a must see. Slightly further away is the seaside town of Skegness with miles of sandy beaches.
A train station in the village provides free parking and takes only twelve minutes into the historic city centre of Lincoln. There are museums, the cathedral, castle and bail gate area. There is a regular bus route from the village centre.
Lincolnshire is a wonderful county with plenty to see and do. Come and visit us soon.
